Gabriela Azar Rubagotti, (b. 1995, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Dominican artist currently based in Italy. Coming from a family of professional visual artists, Gabriela grew up within creative environments, art galleries and art studios from an early age. She obtained her BA degree in Architecture at Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and her MA degree at Istituto Marangoni in Milan, Italy. Through the years Azar Rubagotti has forged an aesthetic taste and chromatic sensitivity that lead her to develop a personal and identifying style as result of a creative vision matured through various experiences in the fields of architecture, interior design and fashion all of which influence her artistic endeavors.
Azar Rubagotti's work is distinguished by the use of light tones, traces of gold, vibrant color marks, bold and fluid strokes, references to nature and her Caribbean heritage. With a technique and a personal language between abstraction and figuration, the artist composes poetic canvases with a sensitive dialogue that communicate harmony, beauty and serenity. All these aspects characterize her pieces which are both delicate and impactful.
The artist has exhibited in solo, duo and group shows across Europe, her work has been recognized in international art prizes such as the Combat Prize (2024), she has collaborated in design projects, and has had her work showcased in international fairs such as Unfair Contemporary Art Fair in Milan, Italy and the prestigious Salone del Mobile during Milan Design Week. Her work has been featured in several international publications such as the Contemporary Art Collectors Book Vol. 1 (2023), featuring one hundred international emerging artists to watch.
